Steven T. Modica, age 38 of Monroe, died unexpectedly Saturday at 6:43 p.m. due to complications from recent surgery at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

Friends may call from 1 – 8 p.m. Monday at Rupp Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. B.J. McDaniel, Pastor of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

Born April 26, 1973 in Monroe, he was the son of Thomas and Noma (Russell) Modica. He is a 1992 graduate of Jefferson High School. He married Misty M. Emery on July 9, 1993 in Toledo, Ohio.

Steven had been employed by Ford Motor Company at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant before his medical retirement on January 1, 2011.

He was a member of U.A.W. Local 387 Flat Rock and the National Rifle Association. Steve was an avid deer hunter and also enjoyed fishing and camping. Steve was also a big fan of the Detroit Lion's and Michigan Wolverines Football.

Steven is survived by his wife Misty; father Thomas (Donna) Modica of Monroe; mother Noma (Stan) Mullins of Monroe; two daughters, Sydney and Brittany who live at home; two brothers, Thomas (Susan) Modica of McRae, Arkansas and Brian Modica of Holland, Ohio; two step brothers, Jamie Mullins and Kevin (Amanda) Mullins both of Monroe; two step sisters, Tammi (Paul) VanAken of Monroe and Sara (Shawn Williams) Robinson of Stockbridge, Michigan; and grandmother Cerrilla Russell of Romulus, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Allen Russell and Samuel and Agnes Modica.
