Nina Martha Ellis
(March 31, 1927 - November 12, 2011)

Age 84 years, of East Prairie, went to be with Jesus on the morning of November 12, 2001. She was surrounded by a loving family. Nina Douglas was born March 31, 1927 to Robert Lee and Oma Mae Douglas who preceded her in death. Nina had one brother Finley Douglas; four sisters Mildred Douglas, Rose Douglas LaMear, Stella Douglas Jernigan and Juanita Douglas Daddona who also preceded her in death. Nina is survived by her sister Lula Belle Douglas, of East Prairie. Nina grew up near East Prairie, Missouri and lived with her parents and siblings. She attended Holloway Grade School and East Prairie High School. She grew up in the Free Pentecostal Church in East Prairie where she met the love of her life, Harold Benjamin Ellis. Nina married Harold Ellis on October 25, 1943 and they had three children; Linda Darlene Stewart of Sarasota, Florida, Harold Ronald Ellis of East Prairie and Kathy Lynn Ditto of East Prairie. The Ellis's had two granddaughters, Jody Ditto of St. Louis and Cynthia Ellis Haney of East Prairie; and one Great-grandson Bradley Keith Haney of East Prairie. Nina lived her life for Christ to the fullest. She played piano at her church for many years and her husband played guitar. She taught Sunday school at Free Pentecostal Church for many years. One of the young men she taught grew up to be her pastor at the Full Gospel Church in East Prairie. Nina served on the prayer chain at her church for many years and was considered a prayer warrior. Every day she prayed for each of her children and called out each of their names. Nina worked at Prairie Manufacturing Company as a surger until her retirement in 1989. In addition to playing the piano she also sang in church for many years. Often with her sisters. Nina was a blessing to anyone that knew her. She loved her Lord with all her heart and her family also. She didn't have a lot of material treasures on this Earth but instead, stored up her treasures in Heaven. Now she is walking the street of Gold with Jesus, the Lamb of God and the saint's in Heaven shouted with Glory at her arrival. She is rejoicing with God the Father and is reunited with her mother and father, her brother and sisters, friends in Christ and her dear husband Harold and most of all, Jesus, her savior. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Shelby Chapel with Pastor Eric McGruder, Pastor Mike Johnson and Pastor Bob Rich officiating. Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Darren Haney, Mike Ray, David Brown, Finley Brown, Raymond Ellis, Steve Ellis and Tommy Smotherman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Ditto, Shelby Ellis, Arthur Brown, Wildon Jernigan, Keith McCutchen, Gerald and Donnie Nettles and John Ellis. Online condolences can be made at
