Berenice Mason Young, 98, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away January 11, 2013, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Berenice was born June 24, 1914 in Milo, Idaho to Joseph Henry and Eleanor (Armstrong) Mason.

She was the fourth of nine children: Basil, Harlan, Byron, Mont, Vivienne, Jack, Sterling, and Rita. Berenice was raised in Ririe, Butler Island, and the dry farms to the East of Ririe, Idaho.

Berenice graduated from the eighth grade in Ririe, attended high school for a while in Rigby and graduated from Ucon.

Berenice loved to dance and perform on stage and in contests with her brothers, Harlan and Byron. Growing up in Ririe, Berenice met and sparked a friendship with a neighboring family's son, Daniel Richard Young, where they danced their way into love.

Berenice and Daniel eloped on the 23rd of September, 1933, in Blackfoot, Idaho in order to save their parents money during the Great Depression, and were later sealed in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on November 21, 1933.

Always employed, they rented their first home, consisting of two rooms and without indoor plumbing, from an aunt for $4 during the Great Depression.

Berenice and Dan lived in Ririe, Hamer, New Sweden, Idaho Falls, Menan, Terreton, Monteview, and Ammon, Idaho. They farmed, owned two grocery stores and an apartment building on Holmes Ave. in Idaho Falls. They finally settled on a farm in Coltman, Idaho on the Lewisville Highway.

Berenice held many positions in the LDS Church. She and Dan served a mission in 1972, in the England South Mission. Upon returning from their mission, they served as extraction missionaries working with Genealogy records and also served as temple officiators.

Berenice and Dan loved to travel, visiting Europe, Japan, Hawaii and most of the United States. After 61 years of marriage, Dan passed away on October 12, 1994.

Berenice remained on their family farm in Coltman, Idaho until June 2005. Between then and her passing, Berenice lived with two of her daughters (in Coltman and Rigby), Fairwinds Retirement Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho Falls Rehabilitation Center, and the Legacy House in South Jordan, Utah.

At her death, Berenice is survived by her children: Connie (Duane) Aston, Sacramento, California; Sandra (Gary) Lundquist, Rigby, Idaho; Kent (Pam) Young, West Jordan, Utah; Susan (Willis) Welker, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and, Craig (Mauna) Young, South Jordan, Utah. Berenice has 31 Grandchildren, 89 Great-Grand Children, and 11 Great-Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons-in-law, four grandsons, two great-grandsons, her parents, six brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Idaho Falls LDS Coltman 1st Ward (12448 North 5th East) with Bishop Blair Sautter, officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon) and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
