Hillsdale, IN, January 18th - John Anderson, an old man and respected citizen in his 74th year, living 3 miles southwest of Hillsdale, died at 11 o'clock last Sunday morning of double pneumonia after an illness of 8 days. Mr. Anderson was a prominent and prosperous farmer and had been a resident of this county since 1861. He was born in Virginia in 1823. He was a member of the Methodist Church and was respected by all who knew him. A brother, Nelson Anderson, of Clinton, survives him.
John S. Anderson died at his home, 2 1/2 miles west of Hillsdale on Sunday morning, January 17, 1897, at 11:25 o'clock. He was born at Belleville, Wood County, WV, August 4, 1823. He was married to Marietta Jacoby, May 25, 1848. There were 7 children born to them. The 4 oldest have passed from this world before him. He moved to Indiana July 31, 1861. He joined the M.E. Church in 1870, but was not taken in full membership, but he lived a consistent honest life and was esteemed highly to his many friends. Two weeks before his death he said he was ready and willing to go. He raised his hands and called his daughter Anna, who died several years ago. He was a kind and affectionate father and husband and leaves an affectionate wife, son, and 2 daughters to mourn his loss. Mr. Anderson's remains were interred in the Helt's Prairie Cemetery January 18, 1897.

1. To my beloved wife Marietta Anderson, all my property, both real and personal, during her natural life.
2. To my son John N. Anderson, all my property, both real and personal, upon the death of my wife. He is to take care of myself, and my wife, after my death, and manage our property.
3. My son John N. Anderson, is to give my daughter Grace Church $800, payable in yearly installments of $200.
4. I make no provisions for my other heirs, because they have already been taken care of.

Written October 30, 1895

In addition to the conditions above stated, my son John N. Anderson is to give my daughter Wilhelmina Larr, $500 in yearly installments of $100 after the death of my wife.
