Jeanette Laura Chitty of Scotch Plains died on Monday, September 14, at Pickering Manor Home in Newtown, Pa.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wis., she was the younger of two daughters of the late Gaetano and Anatacia Anello. Mrs. Chitty studied the piano at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and music was to remain a lifelong interest. She married Robert E. Chitty prior to his enlistment in the army in World War II, and was his lifelong devoted wife and mother of five children.
Mrs. Chitty lived in Westfield for many years before moving to Scotch Plains in 1981. An active member of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Westfield, she assisted
others in a bereavement support group after the passing of her husband.
Her great faith in God, and her quiet, patient spirit, were an inspiration to all. She enjoyed making a beautiful home, and even more admiring the beauty of creation.
Mrs. Chitty was a volunteer hospital worker at Overlook and John F. Kennedy Medical Center, a soprano singer in the Choral Arts Society of New Jersey and a member of Plainfield Country Club in Edison.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1982; her daughter, Bonita Costello, in 2006, and her sister, Marion Dickinson, in 2007.
Surviving are three sons, Steven, James and David; her daughter, Roberta Gerstacker; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 8:45 a.m. today, Thursday, September 17, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:45 a.m. today at St. Helen's Church, 1600 Rahway Avenue in Westfield. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
