NORTH AUGUSTA - Mrs. Tommie Elizabeth Parks Ekre, 92, of Bradford Drive, North Augusta, SC, entered into rest November 10, 2011, at home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Ekre was a native of McCormick, SC, the youngest child of Barney and Belle Parks, having made North Augusta her home for the past 59 years.

She was a graduate of McCormick High School and Emmanuel College. Before her marriage, Tommie was a schoolteacher, which included teaching in a one room schoolhouse. She moved to Charleston, SC, to work for the U.S. Forestry Service where she met her late husband of 61 years, Sherman E. Ekre, who was serving in the U.S. Navy.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Augusta where she was active in many ways, but her devotion was to the Women's Ministry where friendships were special to her. Mrs. Ekre also treasured the many friends she had made through her life work at the Augusta Library.

Tommie lived a life reflective of her strong faith, gentle and kind ways and was appreciative of her many accomplishments, but her real joy came from her love of God and His blessing of a wonderful family.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Kathy Ekre, Dan Ekre and Mike and Teresa Ekre, all of the North Augusta area; a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Dale Johns, Lexington, SC; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at First Assembly of God, Fenwick Street, Augusta. Interment in Pineview Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God, 1613 Fenwick Street, Augusta, GA 30901.

The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Ekre's caregivers, Nancy Walters and Bert Barton.
