Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Rose from a mere NCO of the 22nd Ohio Infantry to Lieutenant Colonel and Commander of the 5th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. Towards the end of the War he was made Colonel and commander of the 1st West Virginia Veteran Infantry, which were a group of veterans who had reenlisted to finish out the war, despite already having served for 3 years. For his gallant service, Colonel Enochs was brevetted Brigadier General, USV on March 13, 1865. he was elected as a Congressman from Ohio, serving from 1891 to 1893. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
