James John McLeod Innes
Birth: Feb. 5, 1830
Death: Dec. 13, 1907

Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant in the Bengal Engineers. In an attack at Sultanpore, India, on February 23, 1858, Lieutenant Innes, far in advance of the leading skirmishers, was the first to secure a gun which the enemy were abandoning. He then rallied round another gun further back, which would have shot onto his advancing columns and shot the gunner. Remaining undaunted at his post, he kept other enemy artillerymen at bay until assistance reached him. For these actions, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in July 1859. He remained in the Royal Engineers and retired a Lieutenant General. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
