He was educated for the ministry before going to work on the stage. He appeared on Broadway in such successes as “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “The Man Who Came Back,” among others. He signed a contract with Paramount Pictures in 1929 and later worked as an actor for most of the major studios. Married to stage actress Carrie Barbier. Actor in 88 films from 1924 to 1945 including: "The Big Broadcast," "Tillie and Gus," "The Merry Widow," "Wife vs. Secretary," "Tarzan's Revenge," "Weekend in Havana" and "Song of the Islands." Barbier was disinterred from Hollywood Forever on August 30th, 1845 and his body was sent to Philadelphia for reburial. (bio by: TLS)
