| Birth: | Apr. 14, 1915 | | Death: | May 15, 1986 | World War II British Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He was a flight officer serving as a Group Captain in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, attached to 487 Squadron, Royal Air Force. During a daylight air raid on a power station over Amsterdam, Holland on May 3, 1943, his Squadron was attacked by a large number of German fighters. As his group approached the target, many were shot down but he proceeded on to drop his bomb load. Leaving the objective, he assisted other planes in his group by shooting down an enemy plane before his own aircraft was hit. As the plane went into a spin and broke up, Squadron Leader Trent and his navigator ejected clear and were taken prisoners. They survived the rest of the war in a German POW camp. For unflinching courage in the face of overwhelming odds, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in March 1946. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
