James E. Goodnight, 73, of 3604 S. Meeker Ave., died Friday in Ball Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Goodnight was native of Jennings County and came to Muncie in 1939. He was a printer for Hudler Press in Noblesville, then worked for The Muncie Star for nine years and for 30 years owned and operated the Goodnight Implement Co. before his retirement in 1980.
He attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church and was a member of Whitney Masonic Lodge 229 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Muncie Council 16, Muncie Commandery 18, Order of Eastern Star Whitney Chapter 564, and the Central Indiana Old Car Club.
Survivors include his wife, Opal; two sons, Larry Goodnight of Muncie, and Clarence Goodnight of Miami, Fla.; three daughters, Juanita (Mrs. Homer) Evans of Fort Wayne, Ruth (Mrs. Sergio) Maya of Houston, Texas, and Sharon (Mrs. Edward) Sylvester of LaGrange, Ill.; a brother, Ira Okil Goodnight of Fort Myers, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Dorothy June Blatt, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Parson Mortuary-Adams Chapel with Rev. Steve Horner officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
