He was listed as John Culler, a retired farmer, age 64 born in Maryland, his wife was listed as, Maria Culler, age 60 born in Maryland. also his brother, Jacob Culler, a retired farmer, age 62 born in Maryland was living with them.

Among the best citizens of this section of the county is John Culler, who was born in Middletown Valley, Frederick County, Maryland, December 24, 1806. his father, John Culler, married Anna Mary Coblentz, both natives of the Middletown Valley. His father died at the age of seventy-two, and his mother at forty-six, and both are buried in the valley where they were born. The grandfather, Michael Culler, came from Pennsylvania, and married a Miss Smith. John Culler, the subject of this sketch, married Maria Smith, daughter of John Smith. She was born in May, 1810, and died December 11, 1872. They were married March 7, 1833. Their children are Ann Maria, born December 25, 1833, and died May 31, 1852; Charlotte Elizabeth, born March 10, 1835, married John William Long, and is the mother of seven children. They are farmers, and reside near Jefferson. his only son, John Harmon Culler, born April 7, 1837, is married and lives on the old homestead, a farm of two hundred and eighty-four acres, and has seven children. In religious connection John Culler is a Lutheran, and in polities has been a Whig, and afterwords an American, during the war a strong Union man, and is now a Republican.
While residing the greater part of his life in Maryland, he has traveled very extensively over the States of the Union. For thirty-eight years he pursued farming, and since 1846 has been engaged until 1881 in mercantile business, May, 1881.

Mr. John Culler, formerly of Middletown, died at the resident of his son-in-law, Mr. John W. Long, near here; his age was 76 years, 10 months and 10 days.
