DRENTLAW CLARA Courtesy of NORTHFIELD NEWS NOV/1949 Drentlaw Clara Northfield News Nov/1949 Following a stroke in the morning Mrs. Clara Drentlaw passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 10 without regaining consciousness. All her children were at her bed side when death occurred. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church, the Rev. Richard G. Douglas officiating. The Rev. Thorlief Harberg, pastor of the Northfield Moravian church gave a prayer and the benediction. Miss Corinne LaPointe sang Safe in the Arms of Jesus and In the Garden. Burial was in the family lot at Groveland cemetery, Dundas. Pallbearers were six nephews -- Raymond Johnson, James and Robert Zimmerman, Alvin Drentlaw, Walter and Ed Pritchard. Relatives attending from away were Mrs. Effie Drentlaw, Mrs. Lloyd Cook and son, Richard of Goodhue, Mrs. L. Nappin of Cannon Falls, Mrs. Myrtle Struemke of Deer Park, Wis. Clara Bertha Johnson was born June 13, 1887, in Dundas community the daughter of John J. and Mary? Winters Johnson. She was married to Benjamin Drentlaw on Feb. 23, 1905. Eight children were born to them, all of whom survive. In recent years Mrs. Drentlaw had been employed at Carleton College. Because of ill health she discontinued working a year ago. Typical of her thoughtfulness toward her family and friends is the cache of Christmas presents which she had already purchased and wrapped for the coming holiday season. She was for many years a member of the Methodist church and of the Degree of Honor lodge. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Surviving her are her children, Mrs. John Fremouw (Bernice), Mrs. Roy Parker (Grace), Mrs. Charles Taylor (Marie), Mrs. Forrest Turnacliff (Helen), Mrs. Ralph Grosser (Alice) and LeRoy Drentlaw, all of Northfield; Arthur Drentlaw of St. Paul, Mrs. Robert Tosney (Margaret) of Portland, Or; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, John Johnson and one sister, Mrs. Allan Zimmerman both of Dennison. Her parents, three sisters, Mrs. Fred Pritchard (Emma), Mrs. Eric Svien (LaVina) and Mrs. Ferdinand Drentlaw (Mary) and two infant brothers preceded her in death.
