Drentlaw Clara Bertha Courtesy of Faribault Daily News 18/Nov/1949 NORTHFIELD--Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Drentlaw, who passed away Thursday, November 10, in the Northfield hospital, following a stroke she suffered earlier in the day, were held Monday, November 14, at the Northfield Methodist church with the Rev. Richard Douglas, pastor, officiating. He was assisted b the Rev. Thorlief Harberg, Pastor of the Moravian church. During the service, Miss Corinne LaPointe sang "Safe in The Arms of Jesus" and "In the Garden." Burial was made in the family lot, beside the graves of her parents, in Groveland cemetery, Dundas. Pallbearers were six nephews, Ray Johnson, James Zimmerman, Robert Zimmerman, Alvin Drentlaw and Walter and Ed Pritchard. Clara Bertha Johnson was born June 13, 1887, in the Dundas community, the daughter of John J. and Mary (Winters) Johnson. She was married on February 23, 1905, to Benjamin Drentlaw of Northfield. Eight children were born to them, all of whom survive. Mrs. Drentlaw was a member of the Methodist church, the Degree of Honor lodge and the auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was employed at Carleton college until about a year ago when she was forced to discontinue her work because of ill health. Since that time she had been at home, although she was not confined to her home and her sudden illness and death came as a great shock to her relatives and friends. She is survived by her children, Mrs. John Fremouw (Bernice), Mrs. Roy Parker (Grace), Mrs. Charles Taylor (Marie), Mrs. Forrest Turnacliffe (Helen), Mrs. Ralph Grosser (Alice), and LeRoy Drentlaw, St. Paul; and Mrs. Robert Tosney (Margaret) of Portland, Ore. There are also 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one brother, John F. Johnson and one sister, Mrs. Anna Zimmerman of Dennison. Relatives attending the services from away were Mrs. Effie Drentlaw, Mrs. Lloyd Cook and son, Richard, of Goodhue; Mrs. Myrtle Struemke, Deer Park, Wis., and Mrs. L. Nappin of Cannon Falls.

She was for many years a member of the Methodist church and of the Degree of Honor lodge. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Surviving her are her children, Mrs. John Fremouw (Bernice), Mrs. Roy Parker (Grace), Mrs. Charles Taylor (Marie), Mrs. Forrest Turnacliff (Helen), Mrs. Ralph Grosser (Alice) and LeRoy Drentlaw, all of Northfield; Arthur Drentlaw of St. Paul, Mrs. Robert Tosney (Margaret) of Portland, Or; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, John Johnson and one sister, Mrs. Allan Zimmerman both of Dennison. Her parents, three sisters, Mrs. Fred Pritchard (Emma), Mrs. Eric Svien (LaVina) and Mrs. Ferdinand Drentlaw (Mary) and two infant brothers preceded her in death.
