The San Francisco Call newspaper published an interview with Betsy on Sunday, June 13, 1897 about her brother Anson Burlingame. At the time she was living in Lorin, California, now a district in Berkeley, California. She was probably living with one of her sons.

Daughter Lillian Angeline published several books under the name Lillian Hinman Shuey that are still in print.

Betsey Burlingame is the sister of Anson Burlingame appointed Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Qing Empire (China) by Abraham Lincoln on June 14, 1861.

She is also the great granddaughter of Revolutionary War hero Colonel Israel Angell.

The great theologian and founder of Providence Plantations Roger Williams (1602-1683) was her 5th great-grandfather.

From a letter from Will P. Ralph, archivist of the Methodist Episcopal Church in California, 26 Jul 1977:

"On the west wall of the Shattuck Avenue Methodist Church, 63rd St. and Shattuck Ave., Oakland, are two memorial windows, one has J.M. Hinman and another B.B. Hinman. The contractor of the church was E.A. Thompson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. This church was built in 1908."

Further he says: "7 Feb 1901 the Shattuck Ave. Methodist Church was incorporated with about 15 members ... Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Thompson ... J.M. Hinman. The church met at 60th and Shattuck until 1907."

Thompson married Leona May Hinman.
