He was born March 10, 1928 at Pittsburg, Kansas to Sherman Thomas and Lily Mae (Smith) Hyatt. He was the youngest and last living of 10 children; 5 boys, 3 girls and 2 half-sisters. Sherman grew up in the Pittsburg and Kirkwood/Baker area, and attended school at Chicopee. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from March 1950 through his honorable discharge in February 1953. Sherman never married nor did he have children but was fortunate in his later years to have met, befriended and loved a special woman he said "I would have married her every day and will go to my grave loving her." He is survived by his extended family of his best friend Oliver Davidson of Girard, Kansas, who he has known since childhood, and a very special friend Elda Powell of Frontenac, Kansas, and his friendships of recent years with caregivers at Arma Care Center, Sunset Manor Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice, some of who became very close and special friends to him. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their children, and his faithful and beloved dog, Kita.
