James Dundas
Birth: Sep. 12, 1842
Death: Dec. 23, 1879

Bhutan War Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he served as a Lieutenant in the Bengal Engineers, Indian Army. On April 30, 1865, Lieutenant Dundas, with a senior officer were ordered to conduct a reconnaissance on a Block-house at Dewan-Giri, in Bhootan. The Block-house was defended with about 200 of the enemy, was reported by Lieutenant Dundas and he then went with assault force to show the way into the Block-house. He had to climb up a wall which was 14 feet high and then to enter a house, occupied by the Sikh soldiers. By leading the way with his fellow officer, he was wounded and the following attack was a success. For prestigious gallantry, he was promoted Captain and awarded the Victoria Cross on December 31, 1867. He was later was killed in actions at Sherpur, Afghanistan. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
