John Albers, Sr.
MINSTER, Sept. 16 — Funeral services for John Albers, Sr., 68, pioneer
businessman and banker who died Thursday at his home in the neighboring village of Ft. Loramie, will be held in St. Michael's church there Monday at 9 a. m., with burial in the church cemetery. Albers had been ill for a year and bedfast for a week.
Born in the Egypt community west of Minster in McLean-twp, Shelby-co, June 1, 1870, he was a son of the late Herman and Josephine (Enneking) Albers. His father settled in Auglaize-co and later moved to Shelby-co to spend the remainder of his life farming.
John Albers attended schools here and farmed until he was 22, after which he became a carpenter-contractor. In 1910, in partnership with Anthony Hoying, he formed the firm of John Albers & Co., dealers in hardware and building supplies. In 1921 Hoying retired from the firm and William H. Albers, a son, was taken in as a partner.
On Oct. 24, 1894, Albers was married to Madalena Schwartz of McLean-tp. To this union were born six children, all of whom are living. They are William H., Lawrence and John, of Ft. Loramie, Miss Clara of Dayton, and Misses Lauretta and Victoria, of Ft Loramie. Mrs. Albers died 10 years ago. A sister, Mrs. Thresia is living here.
Albers was a leading- figure in the civic life of Ft. Loramie for many
years. He was a director of the Loramie Banking Co.
