Waikato-Hauhau Maori War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Colour Sergeant, in the 65th Regiment, York & Lancaster Regiment. At Cameron Town, New Zealand, September 7, 1863, after both his officers had been shot, Colour-Sergeant McKenna took command of the detachment. With his force, heavily outnumbered by the enemy, he charged through their position with the loss of one man killed and one missing. For extreme gallantry and leadership, he was awarded the War Victoria Cross Medal and later achieved the rank of Ensign. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
