| Birth: | Oct. 7, 1830 | | Death: | Dec. 7, 1872 |  Crimean War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant in the British Royal Navy. On May 29, 1855, in the Sea of Azov, Crimea, Lieutenant Buckley of the HMS Miranda with another officer and a Gunner, volunteered to land at a beach where the Russian Army were in strength. Once on shore they met considerable enemy opposition, but managed to set fire to corn stores and ammunition dumps, destroying enemy equipment. On June 3, Lieutenant Buckley carried out another raid with a Boatswain when they landed at the town of Taganrog and were successful in destroying enemy equipment and stores. For most prestigious gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in February 1857 and later achieved the rank of Captain. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
