John F. Wilson was 21, and living in Marion Township, Henry Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. K of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Oct 5, 1861. He was later "discharged for disability" on Aug 9, 1862, in St. Louis.
Wilson recovered from his disability, reenlisted on Jan 5, 1864, and was reassigned to Co. K again. He served throughout the rest of the War, and mustered out of the service with his company on Aug 8, 1865, in Atlanta.
Wilson applied for his pension on Feb 19, 1874. His application is #190,217, and his certificate #187,395.
His Missouri death certificate is #15191showing burial in the Grant City Cemetery on April 2, 1915.
