Actor. He majored in drama at the University of Madrid and got his start performing in theatres throughout Europe. In 1914 he moved to the United States to continue his career in the acting profession. Alberni's debonair looks and talent gained attention and he was cast in a number of Broadway productions between 1915 and 1928, often in comedies. The most notable was the original production of "What Price Glory?" (1924 to 1925). He also made a handful of silent films and settled in Hollywood at the dawn of the talkie era, quickly gaining note with two considerable supporting roles opposite John Barrymore. Although he was Spanish, Alberni spent most of his movie career playing excitable Italians: waiters, janitors, stagehands, politicians, and shop proprietors. His final film role was playing an old Hebrew in Cecil B. DeMille's "Ten Commandments". (1956) In all he acted in 156 motion pictures between 1915 to 1956. In his mid-seventies he went to live in a retirement home for actors, where he died of a heart attack at age 76. (bio by: Priscilla)
