B. F. Kirkpatrick, a well known citizen of Dayton, died at his home in that place Tuesday at half-past 12 o'clock. His death was due to a complication of diseases. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Auditorium in Dayton.

Mr. Kirkpatrick was born in 1846, and was in his 67th year. .When a mere youth he enlisted in the Confederate army and served until the close of the war in the famous Stonewall Brigade

Later in life be devoted some years to teaching and became well known in public school circles in Rockingham. He was influential in the Republican politics of the county and had the distinction of being the first Rural Free Delivery carrier to be appointed in this county. He faithfully served Dayton Route No 19 from the time it was established until within the last few weeks, when his health failed to such an extent that he was compelled to give up the work.

Mr. Kirkpatrick was twice married. His first wife was Miss Virginia Shank, of this county, and his second (who survives him) was the widow of Gabriel Shank, famous among old Confederates as the color-bearer of the Tenth Virginia Infantry, Stonewall Brigade

There are five children surviving—Mrs. Mollie K, Vinnp, of Baltimore; Mrs. George Garber, of Harrisonburg; Mrs. Wade Berry, of Alleghany, Pa ; T. Blair Kirkpatrick, of Baltimore; and Miss Hannah Kirkpatrick, of Dayton. He -is survived also by two sisters and nine brothers.

Deceased was a man of fine intelligence and enjoyed the esteem of many friends who unite in sympathy for the bereaved family.
