Mrs. James R. Baxter, 880 W. Galena Ave., died in a local hospital Saturday night after an extended illness.
The former Grace Lucinda Stevenson was born in Freeport Dec. 6, 1893, the daughter of Claude and Mina (May) Stevenson. Her marriage to James R. Baxter took place April 27, 1918. Her husband died Feb. 19, 1942. A son, Jack, was killed in service.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Janet) Bastian of Shannon, Mrs. Grace Borcherts of Rockford, Mrs. Thomas (Joan) Derenski of Freeport and Mrs. Dwight (Nancy) Drye, Lena; two sons, Robert J. of Jacksonville, Fla., and William L. of Freeport; one sister, Mrs. Charles Wright of Aurora; and 17 grandchildren.
Service will be in the Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Charles F. Landwere, pastor of First Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
