According to family information and grave markers, in 1858, Jefferson and Elizabeth Dawdy suffered the deaths of three of their young daughters: Adalina, "Louisa", and Emily Angeline. This loss shows up in the 1860 US Census in the large age gap between their older living children and their youngest, Althea Arabell, who escaped whatever disease seems to have claimed the lives of their sisters.
