In East Winburg, Texas, October 8, 1901, a child was born to Dee and Helen Leathers. They chose to name him Curtis. He was the 11th child in a family of ten boys and five girls. Eight brothers and four sister preceded him in death. Curtis, along with his family came to Oklahoma when he was six years old and was reared in Porter and Tullahassee, Oklahoma. All of his school career was in Oklahoma.
Curtis Leathers, confessed and found hope in Christ, Jesus as his personal Saviour, at an early age. He married Miss Loretta Wallace in the year of 1927. To this union 15 children were born. Seven preceded him in death. In 1959, he moved his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he remained until death called him at 6:00 AM October 22, 1974.
He leaves to mourn his passing a wife, Loretta Leathers of the home; four sons, Curtis, Jr., Cleo and Curl Leathers of Bakersfield, California, Leon Leathers of Tulsa; four daughters, Mary Helen Griffin, Chicago, Illinois, Joyce Herring, Bakersfield, California; Beulah Childs and Elaine Lankster of Tulsa; 30 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Theodis Leathers, Kansas City, Kansas; 1 sister, Mrs. Emily Leathers of Los Angeles, California and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
