Gary Paul Womer was a gifted child but no one realized it until he started teaching himself to play musical instruments. One day his first or second grade teacher found Gary at the classroom piano picking out tunes that he heard her playing earlier in the day. Who knows what he could have done with his talent if he had the discipline to practice, instead he grew up as the kid who knew how to play a lot of musical instruments. His mother rented a piano and was able to give him instruction herself. He also enjoyed playing an older used organ that his mother purchased, but he was interested in more portable instruments like the guitar.
In his mid 20s he began losing his ability to play musical instruments. His walk was unsteady and he had difficulty holding on to everyday items. He was being treated for neurological problems when he passed away at the age of 29 years. It was a surprise to everyone.
