William was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia the son of Thomas Branch Brown and Mary Susan (Pettus) Brown.

On December 14, 1789 he married Sally Hutcherson in Mechlenburg County, Virginia. To this union eight (8) children were born.

DABNEY BROWN - 200 acreas of land, including 20 acres patented inmy name, one bed and furniture.
WILLIAM BROWN - the tract of land I bought of George Phipps, containing 139A.
ROBERT BROWN -- $200 and one horse, bridle and saddle, one bed and furniture.
Daughters:
ELAINA BROWN-- $200, one horse, saddle, bridle, one bed and furniture.
Grandchildren:
William L. Brown and Sally Jane Brown (children of Richard Brown, deceased) 1/ 8th part of balance of estage.
Thomas Brown (son of Thomas Brown, my son)1/8th part.

Also 1/8th part to my son, Jesse, Also to Ann Winstead, and to my son William, Delmey, Robert and to Elmira each 1/8th part.

Wife, Mary Brown, -- All personal and real estate lent during her life.
After death to be given to my
Daughters:
Mary Walker - a horse
Nancy Brown (uncertain whether son or daughter) --Horse, saddle, bridle, bed and furniture.
Olive Brown - one negro girl, Lucy, horse, saddle, bridle, bed and furn.
Martha Brown - one negro girl Lydia, horse, saddle, bridle, bed and furn.
Rebecca Wilson - one shilling sterling.
Sons:
Thomas Brown -- A horse, saddle, bridle, bed and furniture.
A James Brown -- A horse, saddle, bridle, bed and furniture.
John Brown -- A horse, saddle, bridle, bed and furniture.
Pettus Brown -- A horse, saddle, bridle, bed and furniture.

After this estate shall be divided equally between William Brown, Elizabeth Neal, Amy Hutcheson, Mary Walker, Nancey Brown, Thomas Brown, James Brown, John Brown and Pettus Brown**--and their heirs.
