William was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia the son of Thomas Branch Brown and Mary Susan (Pettus) Brown.
On December 14, 1789 he married Sally Hutcherson in Mechlenburg County, Virginia. To this union eight (8) children were born.

Rebecca Wilson - one shilling sterling.
