Mary Ella White was born on September 17, 1916 in Tallahassee, Florida. She had loving parents: Mrs. Nathana Austin Johnson Wilkes (mother), Walter Johnson (father) and Zachery Wilkes (stepfather).

She attended school in Tampa, Florida and, later, Union Academy in Bartow, Florida.

She married David White, Sr.

Children recall, "Mother along with our father, migrated for seven years to Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York, doing farm work with Father's crew and children. She was a blessing to her children."

As a committed servant to her community and church, she was a stewardess and a missionary society secretary for St James African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bartow until her heath failed.

She was employed as a maid at the Old Polk County Court House for 23 years. A loving person, Sister White loved her Lord, church, family and community.

Preceding her in death: children; Otis L. White (stepson), Curtis L. White and Myrtice White Nicko.

She passed away on October 19, 2011 at the Bartow Care Center at the age of 95.

She leaves to cherish her memories: David M. White (Lucille), Detroit, Michigan; Barbara White Link Bartow, Florida; Raymond N. White (Sherry), Bartow, Florida; Rutha M. White, Seattle, Washington; Bernard A. White, Jacksonville, Florida; L. Emory White, Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters-in-law, Darnetha P. White, Bartow, Florida; Carol White, Chicago, Illinois; son-in-law, Alfred D. Nicko, New York, New York; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 23 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
