Served as a Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, 756th Tank Battalion. On September 12, 1944, he was in command of 2 tanks operating in the attack on enemy forces occupying the town of Noroy le Bourg, France. When his command tank bogged down, armed only with a carbine, he reconnoitered alone on foot far in advance of his remaining tank to locate targets. Throughout the ensuing action, he directed the fire of the tank and his support infantry against numerous German soldiers in a enemy-held group of houses. Due to his leadership, 18 enemy soldiers were killed, 92 captured and the town secured from further resistance. Nine days later he was killed in action, he is one of only two Jewish Americans awarded the Medal of Honor for performances of duty in WW II. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
