Jasper Rea (sic.) Found Dead Near Sesser; Aged Man Had Left Home Ostensibly to Kill Hawks; Charge Strikes Breast
In inquest inquiring into the death of Jasper Rea, (sic.) 73, of near Sesser, who was killed instantly early Wednesday near his home, will be held this evening at 7:00 o'clock at the Brayfield funeral home, conducted by Coroner Dave Clayton. Around 6 o'clock Wednesday morning, Mr. Rea (sic.) took a double barreled shotgun and left his home with the intention of shooting hawks, which had been bothering his crops. A short time later members of the family heard a shot and remarked that he, Mr. Rea, (sic.) had killed a hawk. After a prolonged absence from the house the family became uneasy and went in search of him. His body was found in a field, lying across a log, with a gun shot wound through his heart. It is presumed that Mr. Rea (sic.) stumbled and fell, the impact of the fall discharging the gun. Mr. Rea (sic.) had been in ill health for the past year, suffering from complications of a paralytic stroke and an operation. He had spent practically his entire life in and near Sesser. Deceased is survived by his widow and five children, Louis and Felix of Sesser; Dewey of Houston,Tex.; Mrs. Nova Leach of Tennessee, and Della, at home. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, at the Mt. Pleasant Church, with Rev. John Maulding of McLeansboro, officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
