George served as a Staff Sergeant on B-24 (#41-29544), 68th Bomber Squadron, 44th Bomber Group, Eighth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force in England during World War II.
He resided in Beaver County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on August 26, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was noted as being employed in Packing and also as Single, without dependents.
He was married to Annabelle Sambol sometime after his enlistment.
George was declared "Missing In Action" when while returning from a mission over Munich, Germany. His plane was so damaged that the pilot landed it in the North Sea. George is believed to have drowned since he did not get out of the plane prior to it sinking.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation and Citation of Honor.
