The 1865 Norwegian Census lists August with his parents, Johannes Hanson Bjorge and Anne Christiansdatter Bjorge and his siblings, Ole, Andreas, Johan and Halfdan. August was 1 year old at the time of the census, which would put the grave marker's birth date of 1858 in question.

August Johannessen Bjørge was born 2 Apr 1865 at Vardal, Norway. He was baptized 25 May 1865 in the Gjovik Kirke at Vardal. He was the fifth of six children born to his parents Johannes Hansen Bjørge (1806 – ca 1901) and his wife Anne Christiansdatter (1828 – unknown).

August had four brothers and one sister as follows: Ole J. ca 1852 – died before 1955), Andrew G. 2 Nov 1854-2 Jan 1955 (Bertha Hauglid died in 1889 and Annie Baarstad 25 Feb 1860 – 1 May 1922), Johan Johannessen 14 May 1859-3 Jan 1900 (Britta (Bertha) Lisa Lund (15 Apr 1860 – 9 Apr 1949), Halfdan J. 25 Dec 1861-before 1955 and Juline Johannesdtr. 1871-before 1955 (Even Johannesen Svendstuen).

August came to America with brothers, Johan and Andrew in 1881. Andrew and Johan settled at Gary, MN and acquired land to farm there. August was farming in Mary Township of Norman County by 1905.

August was engaged to marry a daughter of John G. and Soneva Johnson of Lee Township. They did not marry as they both became ill and passed away. August was a charter member of the Landstad Norwegian Church of rural Perley, which later took the name Bethania Lutheran Church. The Borgen family eventually became members of the new Landstad Lutheran Church which was established in 1911.

August became ill and went to his sister-in-law's home (Mrs. Bertha Borgen) for care. He died there in 1906. He was buried in the Bethania Lutheran Cemetery not too far from his fiancé, Soneva "Johannah" Johnson. There is no death record in either Norman or Clay Counties for August.
