Peace Time Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Served as a Private, U.S. Marine Corps. While on duty as a sentry at Marine Barracks, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida on February 11, 1921 he rescued a machinist's mate, U.S. Navy, from a burning seaplane which had fallen near his post. With total disregard of personal safety, he pushed himself to a position where he could reach the pinned man beneath the wreckage and rescued him from the burning plane. In doing so he sustained burns about the head, neck and both hands. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
