Anthropologist and President of Israel. Yitzhak Ben-Zvi served as the second president of Israel, from December 16, 1952 to April 23, 1963. On December 10, 1952 he received the honor of the title of the "Father of the State of Israel" by the first Israeli Knesset. He was married to Rachel (Yanait) Ben-Zvi, who was born in 1886 and died on November 16, 1979. He was one of the signers of the Israeli Declaration of Independence on May 14, 1948. He served in both the First and Second Knesset as a member of the Mapai Party. Additionally, he is pictured on the 100 shekel (NIS) [New Israel Shekel] banknote. He also worked as a professional anthropologist and did fieldwork with the Samaritans of Israel.
