Carl Edward Fike , 75, of Fredericktown, died Saturday, October 29, 2011, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born August 25, 1936, in Clarksville, a son of the late Earl Joseph and Myrtle Sullenberger Fike .
For more than 50 years, Mr. Fike was a member of Laborers International Union of America, working out of Local 286, Brownsville. He sometimes worked as a laborer, foreman or superintendent on local construction projects. Some of his projects included area schools, Hatfield's Ferry Power Plant and numerous industrial buildings.
His hobbies included buying, repairing and selling lawn mowers, fishing, traveling to car shows with his wife and showing his 1955 Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis Deluxe, for which he won many trophies. Every weekend, he and his wife would travel to car races in Lernerville, Pittsburgh Motor Speedway and Motordrome Speedway. When not traveling to races, he and his wife would attend local festivals and shows, including the Covered Bridge Festival and National Pike Steam Shows, as well as the Pittsburgh Zoo. Traveling and spending time with his family brought him special enjoyment.
Mr. Fike was a former member of Waynesburg Moose and a former social member of Fredericktown American Legion.
On February 10, 1957, he married Dolores Roberts, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children, Nancy Jane Greco (James) of Washington, Barbara Jean Johns (Randy) of Carmichaels, Louise Fike (Robert) of Redford, Mich., Carla Doreen Plumley (Robert Jr.) of Crucible and Joseph Edward Fike (Andria) of Merrittstown; seven grandchildren, James and Jason Greco, Stephanie Gacki, Thomas Huey, Robert and Amanda Plumley and Riley Joelyn Fike ; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Earldene Ferrari of Clarksville; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are six sisters, Opal Stroman, Virginia Oplinger, Elda Deter, Dorothy Fike , Gertrude Fike and Mary Fike ; and two siblings, who died in infancy.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 2.
