John Hooley was born in Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland. He and his family moved to Manchester, England while he was a young child.
Parents: James & Ann Hooley
Siblings: Richard Martin Hooley and Nancy Hooley
John married Mary A. Hickey abt. 1851 and they had 14 children.
They lived in Newark, NJ and attended St Patricks Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church before moving to B'klyn, NY in 1862.
The whole family were in the entertainment business and he and his brother, R.M. "Dick" Hooley, owned and operated Hooley's Theatre in downtown Brooklyn from 1862 to 1877. His brother Dick also owned and operated Hooley's Theatre in Chicago, IL until 1893 at the time of his death.
