Major League Baseball Player. Born in New York City, he was an right handed pitcher nicknamed "Fireman", making his debut with the New York Yankees on May 19, 1932. He was a successful relief pitcher for 13 seasons playing for the New York Yankees from 1932, 1934 to 1946 and the Boston Red Sox in 1947. He was a three time All Star 1937 to 1939 and pitched for the Yankees in six World Series 1936 to 1939, 1941 and 1943, with 2 wins and none loss. He ended his career with 93 wins, 53 loss, 107 saves, 378 strikeouts and a 3.50 earned run average. He died from a heart attack in New York City at the age of 61.
