Cinematographer. A fine all-around cameraman, he adapted with ease and panache to various Hollywood trends over his 50-year career. He won an Academy Award for the color photography of "Three Coins in the Fountain" (1954), and received Oscar nominations for "Arabian Nights" (1942), "All About Eve" (1950), "An Affair to Remember" (1957), "How the West Was Won" (co-photography, 1962), "Love with the Proper Stranger" (1963), and "Fate Is the Hunter" (1964). The Philadelphia-born Krasner entered films at 17 as a camera assistant at Vitagraph's Brooklyn studio, and worked his way up to director of photography in 1933. During the 1940s he was noted for his excellent black and white visuals, particularly the gritty lensing of the noir dramas "Scarlet Street" (1945) and "The Set-Up" (1949); moving to 20th Century-Fox in 1950, he did an about-face and specialized in glossy widescreen and color productions. Krasner's 160 features include "The Bank Dick" (1940), "The Ghost of Frankenstein" (1942), "The Egg and I" (1947), "A Double Life" (1947), "Demetrius and the Gladiators" (1954), "The Seven Year Itch" (1955), "Bus Stop" (1956), "King of Kings" (co-photography, 1961), "The Singing Nun" (1966), "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre" (1967), and "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" (1970). He was later active in television until his retirement in 1974. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
