| Birth: | Feb. 2, 1882 | | Death: | Jul. 27, 1944 | World War I British Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sergeant, in the 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. On September 25, 1915, his battalion was ordered to assault German front-line trenches at Hulloch Quarries. Under heavy enemy fire the battalion's advance was held down by barbed wire between the fight lines. Sergeant Vickers on his own in broad daylight, went out in front of his company and cut the barbed wire fences. Because of his actions, the assault on German front-line was a success. For gallantry in action, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal by King George V at Buckingham Palace on January 15, 1916. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
