Wife of Reverend Peter Cartwright, famous pioneer preacher. Daughter of Robert Gaines and Elizabeth. Some say her mother was Elizabeth Gaines, daughter of Rev. Henry Gaines, but this has not been proven. Upon her death, the noted poet, Carl Sandburg, wrote a beautiful poem about her.
