| Birth: | 1891 | | Death: | 1940 |  Politician. A socialist, he was a native of Oita who later became a leader of the movement that triggered strife between miners in Ashio and their management. These events of 1906-07 were known as the "Ashio Dozan Sogi." He later established a number of political parties for peasants and workers. After his election to the Diet in 1936, he changed his political interests and allied himself with the militarist parties and was an important supporter of prime minister Fuminaro Konoe. He became the author of two well-known books on politics, "Dakuryu ni oyogu(Swimming in Troubled Waters)" and "Reimei(Dawn)." (bio by: Warrick L. Barrett)
