Nicknamed "Prince Hal," he was most widely known for his fielding ability. In his 15-season career, he played for six different teams: New York Highlanders (1905-1912); New York Yankees (1913) Chicago White Sox (1913-1914); Buffalo Buffeds (1914-1915); Cincinnati Reds (1916-1917); and the New York Giants (1919). Chase had a checkered career, with several accusations of throwing games. Chase was in on the fixing of the World Series in the Black Sox scandal, and won $40,000 betting on the series.
