He was the son of Haratune Jamjian. He used May 20 as his birth date with the years 1848 and 1849 in different records. He immigrated to the US in 1876 according to a census record. When he became a naturalized citizen in 1883, his passport was sent to the noted Dr. Charles Shepard, who introduced the Turkish baths to America at Brooklyn, which is where Hamparsoom lived at the time so clearly they were connected in some way. Hamparsoom then went back to Turkey where he must have married Aghavni, and then returned to the United States with her in November 1884. Also coming with them was a shoemaker age 29 named "Czarny Jamjian", perhaps a brother. Aghavni and Hamparsoom had their first daughter the following year, in Philadelphia or New Jersey according to differing records, so it is not known where they settled. A second daughter was born in Connecticut according to her death record. Hamparsoom was listed on his death certificate as a silk weaver, and in 1900 a ribbon weaver. By 1900 the Jamjian family lived in Philadelphia and had been joined by Aghavni's mother Anna. Their daughter Margarite died the following year. At his death from heart disease Hamparsoom lived at 1933 N. Mutter Street. He had purchased this triple depth single lot at Northwood in 1901 when Margarite for her burial, followed by Hamparsoom in 1910 and his mother-in-law Anna in 1912.
