William Bilbrey and John Mathews built one of the first water mills at the head of the Roaring River in Oveton, Tennesse about 1820's. The stone used in the mill was brought to Tennessee from North Carolina by the yoke of an Oxen in a covered wagon over 350 miles. The old mill house was a big two story house with a big fireplace. The porch was made of one big flat rock. The family lived at the bottom of the house and the mill was upstairs.
