He ruptured himself February 15, 1865, at Fairfax Station, Virginia, when he slipped while helping to carry a heavy log. He honorably discharged with his company August 3, 1865.
In 1901, he lived in McCoysville, Juniata County.
Cause of death is listed as "insolation" (sunstroke) with "valvular disease of heart" a contributing factor.
