John S. "Jack" Ward died April 27, 1965 from coronary occlusion following heart surgery in a Denver hospital. He was born August 21, 1884 at Black Hawk, South Dakota, where he lived during his early life. As a young man he began employment with the C. B. & Q Railroad and later served as freight train conductor for many years. He was united in marriage with Anna Snyder on June 3, 1910 in Alliance, Nebraska. In 1921 he purchased and operated a theatre in Rapid City, S.D. and in 1923 arrived in Douglas to operate the Princess Theatre in partnership with the late A. A. Clough until 1936, when he opened the Ben Franklin Store, now Hested's. After he sold the store in 1943, his business interests included the former Dodge agency and others in the surrounding area. He is survived by his wife, Anna; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Burnett of Douglas; and a sister, Mrs. Vernon Meeker who is hospitalized in Sioux City, Iowa.
