Belia Martinez DeLeon, of Alice, Texas, passed away on October 24, 2011 at the age of 92. She was born on February 7, 1919 in Laredo, Texas to Espiridion and Benita U. Martinez. Belia was a graduate of Laredo High School and from the Laredo Business College. During World War II she was the Office Manager/Secretary to the Director of Flying at the Laredo Army Air Force Base. Belia was a former member of Alice Desk and Derrick Club, the Alice Professional Club, a member of the St. Joseph Altar Society, a life member of the Laredo Medical Center, a charter and life member of Alice Christus Spohn Hospital Volunteers and a member of the American Women Bankers Association.
'Bel', as she was called by her many friends, worked at Austin Drug and Roselawn Pharmacy, was a sales representative for the Southwestern Drug Association-Western Sales Division, and she retired as a Customer Service Officer from the Alice National Bank. Her long career spanned over 50 years. Upon her retirement Belia worked as a volunteer at Christus Spohn-Alice. The joys of her life were her family and friends. Belia was loved by all who knew her as her contagious smile brightened the days of many.
Belia was preceded in death by her parents, Espiridion and Benita Uribe Martinez.
She is survived by two daughters, Belia Iona (Lupe) Jaimes of Austin, Texas and Judith D. (David) Boratyn of Houston, Texas; four granddaughters, Lisa J. (Edward) Martin of Lufkin, Texas, Judith N. Jaimes of Austin, Texas, Susan D. (Michael) Neri of Dallas, Texas and Jill Roberson-Blatt of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Martin and Jeffrey Martin both of Lufkin, Texas, Catherine Cox of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Madison, Carson, Marshall, and Hudson Neri all of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Benita M. Rangel of Laredo, Texas; one brother, Espiridion 'Speedy' Martinez, Jr. of Alice, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Ruben M. Garcia & Sons Funeral Services, Chapel A, in Alice, Texas, with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at New Collins Cemetery in Alice, Texas.
