MARIETTA - Joyce Stephens Hankins, 60, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Aug. 11, 1940, in Mantachie to Hubert Tolbert Stephens and Margaret Anna McIntosh Stephens. She was an honor graduate of Mantachie High School, Draughn's Business College and Itawamba Community College. She has worked as an executive secretary at Pennsylvania Tire and Rubber Company; a licensed practical nurse at Tupelo Manor Nursing Home; and a private duty nurse. She was a member of Tombigbee Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and spending time with family and friends. She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ozark Baptist Church in the Ozark community with Bro. Bill Adams and Bro. Royce Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Tamera G. Hankins and DeAnna D. Hankins, both of Marietta; one sister, Kathryn Stephens Nichols, and her husband, Paul, of Memphis; one granddaughter, Brittany Ann Hankins of Saltillo; her nieces and nephews, Polly Clyburn of Norman, Okla., Angie Nelson of Memphis, Howard T. Stephens of East Norwalk, Conn., Steve C. Stephens of Fulton, Dudley Joe "Butch" Stephens of Wheeler, Iris McKinney, Michael D. Stephens and Jan Nunley, all of Booneville, Sonya Hall of Cleveland, Pam Liljeberg of North Carolina, Debbie Eaton of Tennessee, Cece Rosoles, Ray Butler Jr. and Sandy Logan, all of Texas, Danny Butler of Pontotoc, and Joel Strickland and April Strickland, both of Arkansas; three sisters-in-law, Burvil Thaxton of Mantachie, Sue Strickland of Little Rock, Ark., and Wilma Jean McAnally of Tupelo; a brother-in-law, John Hankins of Alabama; her mother-in-law, Lavada Hankins of Tupelo; several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, William David Hankins Jr.; two brothers, Howard Dudley Stephens and Larry Gene Stephens; and her father-in-law, E.E. Hankins.

Pallbearers will be Don Spradling, Terry Guin, Mack Guin, Ray Guin, Robert Hugh Guin, and Willie McGee.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before services.
