Norman Earl Bryer, age 68 of Yale, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at his home in Yale. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Church of God in Yale. Pastor Mike Clark will officiate. Interment will follow at Lawson Cemetery, Yale.
Norman was born on April 13, 1943 in Houston, Texas to the late George and Dessie (Spears) Bryer in a tent with a midwife. Norman traveled with his parents and family to various states, working in fruit harvest in California and Oregon. They also cleaned septic tanks in Arizona on western movie sets, where they saw many movie stars. They also painted grain elevators in the wheat belt, and laid tons of aspalt on driveways. He married the love of his life Brenda Lewis from Yale, OK on May 30, 1975. They made their home in Drumright for 18 years before moving to Yale in 1991 where they called home. He owned Cross Creek Hydraulic Service for many years and was very successful with his business and met many people and made many friends in the area. His ministry was driving a church van for many years, picking up as many children as he could for church on Sundays and Wednesdays. They affectionately called him Uncle Norman. He also worked in the church kitchen helping prepare church meals. They have attended the Church of God for a number of years. He loved trout fishing with his brothers in Montana and Wyoming when he was young. His favorite activities were to hunt mushrooms with his friends Tobie Alsip and Terry Sewell, and go fishing with Tobie. He loved sharing stories of days on the road with his family and reckless days of his youth.
Norman is survived by his wife Brenda of the home, there are no biological children but plenty of other children they call their own., brothers Eugene Bryer and wife Judy of Forgan, Ok., Eason Bryer and wife Carol of Forgan, Ok., sisters Wanda Williamson and husband Robert of Woodward,OK, Connie Acker and husband Benny of San Antonio, Tx., Bonnie Acker and Kirk Kilpatrick of Cleveland, Tx, Lila Betheau of Houston, Tx., Linda Steele and husband Dale of Offerle, Ks., Mamie Oaks and husband Porky of Grandbury, Tx., and numerous nieces and nephews and inlaws, friends and family.who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Claude Bryer and a sister, Macie Bryer.
