Hebron Journal 5-17-1928:
William B. Dufur was born April 23, 1880 at Murry, Iowa, where he lived until he was 9 years of age, when he with his parents came to Nebraska and settled in Fillmore County near Ohiowa where he grew to manhood and finished his schooling. In 1893 the family moved again, settling near Hebron in Thayer County, which has been his home for the most part until the time of his death. Mr. Dufur was united in marriage to Ella May Pitts, October 8th, 1903. To this union three children were born, two of whom survive their father. Floyd departed this life in infancy.
Brother Dufur confessed his faith in Christ about 24 years ago and placed his membership with the Baptist brotherhood, where it remained until about 5 years ago, when he transferred to the congregation of the Church of Christ in Hebron, where it remained until the time of his death last Friday, May 11, 1928, he being 48 years and 18 days of age.
A number of years ago, the subject of this sketch united with the Masonic order and remained a member of the same until the time of his death; and was buried at the Harmony Cemetery under the auspices of that organization. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen.
Brother Dufur was a kind father, a loving companion, a splendid neighbor; loved and respected by all who knew him and always cheerful and trying to make life a little easier and more pleasant for all whom he met.
Some time last winter his health failed to some degree and under advisement of some of our best physicians he went to some specialists to see if there was any possible way to remove the cause of his trouble. For several weeks he was in the hospital at Omaha without any definite information as to his illness. In May he received word to return for another careful examination and May 3rd he left for the University Hospital of Omaha and went through the clinic. And it was the judgment that it would be best to perform an operation, to which he willingly consented. On last Friday morning the task was undertaken and finding conditions much worse than they had anticipated, he passed away, without rallying from the anesthetic.
The funeral services were held at the Christian Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, who spoke words of comfort to a large concourse of neighbors and friends who fathered to pay tribute of respect to a husband, father and neighbor.
The deceased leaves to mourn his loss, a loving companion; two sons, Warren at home; and Lloyd, who is now in the United States Navy stationed in California; a father and mother; three sisters and one brother; besides many friends and neighbors. The floral offerings were very beautiful and express the high esteem in which our dear brother was held. Interment in the Harmony Cemetery.
